Review on Alien Romulus

Alien Romulus is a new horror movie that was directed by Fede Alvarez. It is the latest installation in the already popular Alien franchise. Chronologically, Romulus takes place after the events of the first Alien movie. The story introduces us to Rain and Andy (Andy is robot that is built to serve Rain), they are told that they have to go back in to orbit since they didn't meet the designated quota. Rain meets up with her friends and they takeoff, while exiting the atmosphere they come across an abandoned space craft so they decide to explore it and see if there is any valuables/survivors. The abandoned space craft is the one that the original crew in the first movie were on. They decide to split up and board the ship, they soon come across a swarm of parasites. After they survive the attack a single parasite latches onto one of the members. After a series of events the crew members are getting chased by multiple aliens, and we soon learn that one of the crew members is pregnant. The plot thickens even more and leads up to a terrifying ending that will leave viewers shocked by what they saw.

The central themes tie around the ideas of human overstepping there boundaries and exploring too far. Its almost in our human nature to explore things that we don't know. Boarding the abandoned ship wasn't apart of the original plan and was overstepping the crew's boundaries. Interacting with the parasite/alien gave a good insight between man vs nature, the alien being the much more genetically gifted predator will always beat out man. The horror aspects in the movie were great and the jump scares landed when they needed to. The cinematography was the best out of any alien and the score flowed well with the plot. The main issue I have is how similar the plot and progression this movie was compared to the original Alien. It almost makes it seem like the movie doesn't have its own identity since its something we have already seen.

All in all it was a fun watch filled with an unforgettable ending that should leave the viewer satisfied. Be sure to watch the original Alien movie because you will be confused. I rate this movie a 6/10 and would recommend it.
