Midsommer

Midsommar was directed by Ari Aster and was released in 2019. It stars Florence Pugh who plays Dani and features a group of friends who planed a trip to Sweden. Dani had a lot of mental issues leading up to the trip and had relationship issues with her boyfriend Christian. Christian had already been planning a trip to Sweden with his friends and hadn't told Dani yet, but Pelle (their friend who is a Swedish native) insisted on her joining them. Dani accepts and in a couple of months they are on the plan there. They drive hours to go to the middle of nowhere to visit Pelle's old village. They hold a celebration and ask the people who venture out of the village (Like Pelle who attends a university in the United States) to bring their friends to experience their culture. The group quickly realizes that this is no ordinary tribe and something dark and disturbing is at foot.

This movie was legit insane, jaw was on the floor for probably majority of the last 30 minutes. This movie was legit insane and definitely not for the weak stomach and immature audience. The psychological warfare on Dani's psyche was done brilliantly and had me feeling absolutely horrible for her character. The entire cast did her very wrong and it was definitely not a good idea to go to that village. The central themes were ok but the driving force was definitely the mental breakdown on all the main cast members.

The movie has few flaws except for the beginning being a little slow to get into the thick of the plot. A big highlight for me was the cinematography, gorgeous colors and graphics. The acting performance from Florence Pugh was also fantastic and blew me away with her facial expressions. With most things taken into account I rate this movie a 7.5/10.
