Review on Bird Box
Bird Box was released to Netflix in 2018 and was directed by Susanne Bier. This feature stars Sandra Bullock, Trevante Rhodes, and John Malkovich. An unseen ominous presence drives the victim to immediate death via suicide. The story follows Malorie Hayes who is played by Sandra Bullock, she somehow survives all the chaos as everyone seems to be dying and the world going crazy; Malorie finds herself inside a mansion with a group of people. There they figure out what is causing the chaos and how they can defeat it. What the people inside the mansion didn't know was that Malorie was actually pregnant with twins. This strikes controversy and speculation inside the fallout shelter, while there food supply quickly trickled away.
For what its worth at the time Bird Box was an absolute hit in the box office and was the talk of the century during that time period. The uniqueness in the script is more than likely why it boasted significant popularity on release. I enjoyed the two part script where the beginning half of the movie was taken place during the fallout shelter in the mansion, and the later half taking place with Malorie trying to survive on the outside with her two little kids. It was an unfortunate scenario for a kid to be born in but both babies had learn quickly in order to survive. I also enjoyed the acting and I believe it made the intense scenes even more heart-pounding.
As for negatives I can't really grasp onto any other than the supporting cast was pretty weak in my opinion. The only character I felt like the viewer could grow a connection to was Sandra Bullock's character and that was it. For the most part the thematic structure wasn't really there other than "do anything to keep you and your family alive."
With all things taken into account I give this film a 6/10.
