Review on the movie IT
It is a movie that was released in 2017, and was directed by Andy Muschietti. It is based off of Stephen King's best selling horror novel. The movie takes place in a small town in the state of Maine, and follows a group of kids. This movie stars Jaeden Martell (Billy Denbrough), Sophia Lillis (Beverly Marsh), Finn Wolfhard (Richie Tozier), and Bill Skarsgard (Pennywise). The group of kids are known as "The Losers Club" and after Billy's brother went missing the group is determined to find him. Meanwhile strange phenomenon have been occurring to each individual member, all their answers lead to a creepy clown legend regarded as "Pennywise."
This movie to me felt almost all over the place, the direction was pretty clear but the overarching message it was trying to leave behind didn't necessarily stick with me. Before I get into the thematic structure I want to start with the positives. The cinematography was surprisingly amazing and it almost had a nostalgic feeling, like I was back in elementary not having a care in the world. The acting was alright except for Bill Skarsagard, the entire creepy clown persona gave me chills every time Pennywise was on the screen. The jump scares in this one were also amazing, a lot of them I wasn't expecting and almost knocked over my popcorn bowl I had.
As for the negatives, like I mentioned earlier the thematic structure wasn't all there. It felt like it was trying to portray a coming of age story, where to main protagonists take on a challenge and mature into adulthood. I felt like the ending was also rushed and the director didn't necessarily have a clue on how he was going to go about it. All in all it was a decent watch but definitely enjoyable for the average person even if you don't like horror movies. I rate this movie a 5/10, and would loosely recommend to people.
