Review on the movie IT

Image
It is a movie that was released in 2017, and was directed by Andy Muschietti. It is based off of Stephen King's best selling horror novel. The movie takes place in a small town in the state of Maine, and follows a group of kids. This movie stars Jaeden Martell (Billy Denbrough), Sophia Lillis (Beverly Marsh), Finn Wolfhard (Richie Tozier), and Bill Skarsgard (Pennywise). The group of kids are known as "The Losers Club" and after Billy's brother went missing the group is determined to find him. Meanwhile strange phenomenon have been occurring to each individual member, all their answers lead to a creepy clown legend regarded as "Pennywise." This movie to me felt almost all over the place, the direction was pretty clear but the overarching message it was trying to leave behind didn't necessarily stick with me. Before I get into the thematic structure I want to start with the positives. The cinematography was surprisingly amazing and it almost had a nostal...

Review on Bird Box

Image
Bird Box was released to Netflix in 2018 and was directed by Susanne Bier. This feature stars Sandra Bullock, Trevante Rhodes, and John Malkovich. An unseen ominous presence drives the victim to immediate death via suicide. The story follows Malorie Hayes who is played by Sandra Bullock, she somehow survives all the chaos as everyone seems to be dying and the world going crazy; Malorie finds herself inside a mansion with a group of people. There they figure out what is causing the chaos and how they can defeat it. What the people inside the mansion didn't know was that Malorie was actually pregnant with twins. This strikes controversy and speculation inside the fallout shelter, while there food supply quickly trickled away. For what its worth at the time Bird Box was an absolute hit in the box office and was the talk of the century during that time period. The uniqueness in the script is more than likely why it boasted significant popularity on release. I enjoyed the two part scri...

Possum takes place in Europe and features Sean Harris as Philip and Alun Armstrong as Maurice. It was released in 2018 and was directed by Matthew Holness. Philip is a disgraced children's puppeteer who has been having a pretty rough life. He has been haunted with visions from his childhood that scared him as a kid as of recently. Because of these nightmares Philip decides to go back home where he grew up to face his evil stepfather (Maurice) and some hidden secrets of his past. Visions of the possum continuously haunt his mind while traveling across the continent but he soon makes his way back to the old farm where he grew up. During his adolescence he learned the art of puppeteering and became inspired by telling a fictional story with his toys. He would often create poems to go along with his little stories but one rhyme that was told by his stepfather would never escape his mind. Philip soon realizes that this would not be an ordinary visit back home and he is going to have to...

Midsommar was directed by Ari Aster and was released in 2019. It stars Florence Pugh who plays Dani and features a group of friends who planed a trip to Sweden. Dani had a lot of mental issues leading up to the trip and had relationship issues with her boyfriend Christian. Christian had already been planning a trip to Sweden with his friends and hadn't told Dani yet, but Pelle (their friend who is a Swedish native) insisted on her joining them. Dani accepts and in a couple of months they are on the plan there. They drive hours to go to the middle of nowhere to visit Pelle's old village. They hold a celebration and ask the people who venture out of the village (Like Pelle who attends a university in the United States) to bring their friends to experience their culture. The group quickly realizes that this is no ordinary tribe and something dark and disturbing is at foot. This movie was legit insane, jaw was on the floor for probably majority of the last 30 minutes. This movie w...
